Navicular disease Often a navicular study includes a study of P3 as well - the study shown included views of the navicular bone and P3 The disease in the navicular bone is severe and rather easily seen on the radiographs. P3 is radiographically normal. Lateral view of the foot - note how long the heel is trimmed possible to relieve the pain in the caudal aspect of the foot - the navicular bone is more opaque than normal because of the presence of reactive new bone preventing visualization of the medullary cavity. The oblique views show both P3 and the navicular bone – note how well the sulci of the frog have been cleaned but only partially packed – a part of the destructive lesions within the navicular bone can be seen superimposed through the body of P2.The “high pedal” dorsopalmar view plus the “skyline” view clearly show the cystic lesions within the medullary cavity as well as the destructive lesions within the cortex of the navicular bone.Comments Note how the destructive lesions within the medullary cavity of the navicular bone indicating cystic disease blend together with the adhesions at the flexor surface.
