There has been a great deal of interest in locking systems over the last few years. One of the limiting factors from the point of view of the veterinary surgeon has been the requirement to stock a dedicated range of locking screws as well as the standard range of screws.

It was one of the key considerations of the IVOA (International Veterinary Orthopaedic Academy) at the outset to develop a locking system that used standard bone screws. The SOP achieves this via the patented dual lock system incorporated into each pearl (hole).

This results in an extremely stable locked system and no need for specialized locking screws.
