This 3 day course is designed to update the practitioner on the current concepts of etiology, diagnosis and management of the various conditions causing lameness in horses. The course begins with a discussion of the visual aspects of lameness diagnosis (including videos), followed by the interpretation of the various manipulative and palpation tests. Approaches to diagnostic anesthesia are also discussed in detail. Following this the various diseases affecting the fore and hind limbs, and back regions of the horse are reviewed. Radiographic evaluation of these regions will also be discussed in detail. Additionally, the principles of diagnosis and treatment of synovitis/capsulitis, developmental orthopedic disease and tendon and ligament injuries will also be discussed. The 4 hour lab on the final day of the course allows the participant to practice diagnostic anesthesia approaches and to perform the various surgical procedures on cadaver limbs that were discussed in lecture.
