| Description: | This course follows on from the previous two advanced lameness and diagnostic imaging courses. This is an intensive course aimed at delegates with experience of orthopaedic surgery. The format has been slightly modified to concentrate on lectures and discussions for the first two days, followed by a separate practical day with a smaller number of participants - allowing maximal hands-on exposure and tuition. Book early to ensure a place on the practical course. The speakers have been chosen because of their expertise, practical as well as theoretical knowledge, variety of caseloads and experiences, and proven teaching ability. Days 1 and 2: Contemporary topics in advanced orthopaedic surgery will be covered, whilst encouraging all the speakers and participants to share their considerable experience. The emphasis will be on arthroscopy, arthrodesis and fracture repair, especially new indications, techniques and equipment. The treatment of trauma and sepsis will be covered, as will minimally invasive techniques. Surgery for soft tissue injuries and the surgical management of back problems will also be discussed. Delegates will be encouraged to bring case examples for panel discussion. Practical Day: This will comprise hands-on practicals on the use of the Locking Compression Plate system and endoscopic cadaver surgery of complex sites such as the stifle, digital tendon sheath, navicular bursa and superior check ligament. There will be a high ratio of instructors to delegates. There will also be a demonstration of fetlock arthrodesis. | |
